STRANDED

JANUARY 17TH, 2021

STRANDED, I’ve HAD A BREAKDOWN, AND I’M LOST WANDERING THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I Am WRECKED.

My heart beats along to the rhythm of yellow road markings running beneath my car’s underside. I poke my fingers out the window and let them dance.

I’ll go as far as my screams can carry.

I had a destination. it’s lost amongst the maps scattered across the passenger seat.

I press harder on the gas.

When I reach the center of nowhere, I’ll first feel the road beneath my feet so I know what it will be like when my knees hit the asphalt.

I gaze down stretches of open road. My shadow runs miles long.

The ground shakes in my fists. Wind blows.

I wet the corners of my cracked mouth, Reach for the car door, and brace myself for the journey home.
